Project Description
Traditional employee training can often feel repetitive, disconnected, and difficult to measure. RightSource was created to make workplace learning more interactive by combining micro-learning with simulation and gamification.
The platform allows users to complete short learning activities, apply their knowledge, and manage a virtual company as they progress. Every decision contributes to the development of their virtual business, helping users understand how communication, leadership, planning, and business choices can affect outcomes.
For companies, RightSource provides a more engaging way to support employee development. Instead of simply assigning training modules, organisations can encourage employees to participate, learn consistently, and improve their skills through an experience that feels more like a challenge or strategy game.
Our team developed the web experience using Next.js, supported by Node.js and Express APIs, MongoDB, and AWS infrastructure. The responsive interface was designed to make the platform accessible across desktop and mobile browsers, while the administration layer gives businesses control over users, learning content, company activities, and platform data.
Business Goals
The primary business goal was to create a learning marketplace that improves employee engagement and makes professional development easier to adopt at scale.
RightSource aims to help companies move away from one-time training sessions and toward continuous learning through short, manageable activities. The gamified virtual company gives employees a reason to return regularly, apply what they have learned, and see visible progress over time.
For the business, the platform creates opportunities to connect organisations with structured learning experiences, track participation, and understand how employees are progressing. It also provides a flexible foundation that can support different industries, training topics, company sizes, and learning programs.
Features
Gamified Micro-Learning
Users learn through short, focused activities that are easier to complete during a busy working day. This approach helps break complex subjects into smaller lessons that feel more approachable and easier to remember.
Virtual Company Management
The platform allows users to manage a virtual company while completing learning activities. Their decisions, progress, and performance create a practical connection between the lessons and real business situations.
Interactive Learning Experience
Instead of only reading content or watching videos, users actively participate in challenges and make decisions. This keeps the learning experience engaging and encourages users to apply their knowledge.
Progress-Based Learning
Users can track their learning journey, completed activities, achievements, and virtual company development from a central dashboard. Visible progress helps motivate users to continue learning.
Company and Employee Ecosystem
RightSource brings employees and organisations into the same platform. Companies can introduce learning programs, while employees can access activities designed to improve their knowledge and workplace skills.
Learning Content Management
The web platform can support the creation, organisation, and management of learning activities, challenges, and business scenarios. This gives administrators the flexibility to keep the content relevant and up to date.
Responsive Web Application
The platform was designed to work smoothly across desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers. Users can access their learning environment from the device that best suits their schedule.
Admin and Business Management
The backend structure supports the management of users, companies, learning content, activity data, and platform operations. This gives the business a centralised way to monitor and manage the ecosystem.
Scalable Technical Foundation
Next.js, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, and AWS provide a flexible foundation for supporting more users, new learning modules, additional business scenarios, and future marketplace capabilities.

Challenges & Solutions
Challenges
Solutions
Making employee learning more engaging
Many employees see training as a routine responsibility rather than something valuable or enjoyable. This can lead to low participation and limited knowledge retention.
We used gamification, short learning activities, and virtual business management to give users a more active role. Instead of simply completing a lesson, users make decisions and see how their progress affects their virtual company.
Balancing learning and entertainment
The platform needed to feel engaging without allowing the game-like elements to distract from the actual learning objectives.
The experience was structured around learning activities first, with gamification used to support motivation and participation. Progress, challenges, and virtual company features were designed to reinforce the content rather than compete with it.
Keeping the experience simple for different types of users
RightSource needed to be accessible to employees with different levels of technical knowledge, professional experience, and learning preferences.
We focused on clear navigation, short content sections, guided workflows, and simple dashboards. Users can understand what to do next without having to navigate through a complicated training system.
Giving companies useful control without overcomplicating the platform
Organisations need to manage employees, programs, and learning content, but too many administrative options can make the system difficult to use.
The platform structure separates user-facing learning from business and administrative controls. This allows companies to manage important data and activities while keeping the employee experience clean and focused.
Creating a system that can grow with different learning programs
The platform needed to support new subjects, industries, company scenarios, and learning activities over time.
We built the application with a modular architecture using Next.js, Node.js, Express, and MongoDB. This allows new content, business simulations, and user journeys to be added without rebuilding the core platform.
Maintaining a consistent experience across devices
Employees may access training from office computers, personal laptops, tablets, or mobile browsers.
The interface was designed responsively so that dashboards, learning activities, and progress views remain easy to use across different screen sizes and devices.
Measuring participation and learning progress
Companies need more than course completion data; they need a clearer view of engagement and ongoing participation.
The platform structure supports progress tracking, activity history, user performance, and virtual company development, giving businesses more meaningful insight into how employees interact with the learning experience.
