About Project

STACKT is a cross‑platform habit‑tracking app designed specifically for teens who are more motivated by their friends than by traditional “productivity” tools.

Your team built a Flutter app for Android and iOS with a Node.js backend, creating a playful but structured space where users can create squads, track daily habits in real time, and cheer each other on as they build better routines together.

Project Description

Most habit apps are built for adults and feel like personal productivity dashboards. STACKT flips that idea for teens by treating habits like a team sport. Instead of tracking alone, users join or create “squads” with friends, set shared or individual habits, and hold each other accountable through real‑time progress and positive peer pressure.

In the app, a teen can create a profile, start a squad, and invite friends to join. Each squad sets habits they want to build, like studying a little every day, practicing a skill, moving more, or getting enough sleep. Members check in on their habits daily, and the app visualises everyone’s streaks and progress in a way that feels more like a social club than a to‑do list. Simple reactions and encouragement features help friends celebrate wins and keep each other on track.

Your team implemented STACKT using Flutter and Dart for a consistent experience across Android and iOS, while a Node.js backend handles authentication, squads, habits, streaks, and notifications. The overall design, copy, and flow are tuned to feel teen‑friendly: bright, fun, and low‑pressure, but still structured enough to build real consistency.

Business Goals

The core business goal of STACKT is to make habit‑building appealing and sustainable for teens by tapping into the one thing that motivates them most: their friends.

Rather than competing purely in the crowded adult productivity space, STACKT positions itself as a lifestyle app at the intersection of social, wellness, and gentle accountability.

For the founders, this opens up multiple paths: building a strong direct‑to‑teen brand, partnering with schools or youth programs, and eventually introducing premium features (advanced analytics, squad challenges, custom themes) while keeping the base experience accessible and positive.

Features

Squad‑Based Habit Tracking

Users create or join squads with friends, so habits are built alongside people they know and trust instead of alone.

Shared & Personal Habits

Squads can set shared goals while each member can also track personal habits, keeping things flexible but still collective.

Real‑Time Progress Views

Teens can see how their squad is doing at a glance—who checked in, who’s on a streak, and where encouragement might help.

Streaks & Motivating Visuals

Visual streaks, completion indicators, and simple progress graphics make daily check‑ins rewarding without feeling like heavy “productivity charts”.

Reactions & Encouragement

Lightweight social features (cheers, reactions, short messages) let friends celebrate each other’s wins and offer support when someone falls behind.

Cross‑Platform Flutter App

Flutter + Dart ensures the same playful, fast experience on both Android and iOS, which is key for friend groups using different devices.

Node.js Backend for Squads & Habits

The backend manages user accounts, squads, habit definitions, check‑ins, and notifications, designed to support many small groups using the app at once.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenges

Solutions

Making habit tracking feel fun, not like homework

Teens tend to drop tools that feel too serious or “adult”.

The product leans into social energy, squads, reactions, and friendly visuals, so habits feel like something you do with your friends, not a solo obligation.

Balancing social features with psychological safety

Peer pressure can be motivating but also stressful if not handled carefully.

STACKT focuses on positive reinforcement (cheers, support, celebrating streaks) and avoids harsh comparisons or public shaming, keeping the tone supportive.

Keeping the UX simple for quick, daily use

If check‑ins take too long, teens won’t stick with it.

The daily flow is designed around a few taps: open the app, tap habits done, see squad progress, so it fits into a few seconds between other activities.

Supporting multiple squads and habits without clutter

Teens may belong to different friend groups or focus areas.

The data model and UI allow users to belong to multiple squads, with clear sections and simple navigation so they can jump between groups without confusion.

Ensuring performance across low‑ to mid‑range devices

Not every teen uses a flagship phone.

Using Flutter with careful attention to lightweight screens and minimal heavy animations keeps the app smooth even on modest hardware.
