Project Description
While the GoLocal customer app focuses on helping people discover and support nearby businesses, the GoLocal Seller app is built for the other side of the marketplace: the shop owner, the independent professional, the local service provider. Many of them don’t have the time or resources to build their own digital tools, but they still need a simple way to go online and stay connected to their community.
With the GoLocal Seller app, a business can sign in, set up its profile, and start managing its presence on GoLocal. Owners can create product or service listings, organise them into categories, update prices and stock, and showcase new arrivals or special deals. Builtâin chat lets them talk directly with customers in real time, respond to questions, and build relationships. The app also shows incoming orders, order status, and basic analytics so businesses can see how their store is performing over time.
On the technology side, the seller apps are built natively in Kotlin (Android) and Swift (iOS) for smooth, responsive dayâtoâday use. A Laravel backend with a MySQL database powers authentication, products, orders, and messaging. The webâbased admin panel, developed with HTML, CSS, Laravel, jQuery, Bootstrap, and Figmaâdriven designs, gives the GoLocal team control over onboarding, approvals, categories, and marketplace configuration.
Business Goals
The main business goal of the GoLocal Seller app is to make it easy for local businesses to go digital, without having to build their own tech stack.
By giving shop owners and professionals a dedicated app to manage products, orders, and customer communication, GoLocal strengthens its marketplace from the supply side and creates a healthier, more active local ecosystem.
Strategically, the seller app is also about scale: the better the tools for merchants, the more likely they are to stay engaged, add inventory, run offers, and invite customers, driving growth for both GoLocal and the businesses it supports.
Features
Business Profile Management
Sellers can set up and edit their store or service profile, logo, description, contact info, opening hours, so customers understand who they are and what they offer.
Product & Service Management
Businesses can add, edit, and remove products or services, set prices, upload photos, and organise everything under clear categories.
Promotions & Highlights
The app allows sellers to promote new arrivals, special deals, and featured items, helping them push timeâsensitive offers to the marketplace.
RealâTime Customer Communication
Builtâin chat or messaging lets businesses respond to customer questions, coordinate details, and build trust without leaving the app.
Order Tracking & Handling
Sellers can view new orders, update statuses (accepted, in progress, completed, cancelled), and manage the full order lifecycle directly from their phone.
Basic Analytics & Insights
A simple analytics view gives insights into orders, popular items, and activity trends, helping sellers understand what’s working and where to focus.
Native Android & iOS Apps
Kotlin and Swift ensure reliable, fast performance for busy business owners who manage their store on the go.
Laravel + MySQL Admin & APIs
The Laravel backend with MySQL and a web admin panel provides a stable, configurable foundation for categories, approvals, and marketplace rules.

Challenges & Solutions
Challenges
Solutions
Designing for nonâtechnical business owners
Many local sellers are not techâsavvy and may feel intimidated by “complex” apps.
The UX focuses on clear language, guided flows (stepâbyâstep product creation, simple order views), and large, obvious actions so even firstâtime users can manage their shop confidently.
Keeping product and service management simple but flexible
Different businesses have very different offerings, products, services, packages, etc.
The data model and UI were designed to handle both productâstyle items and serviceâstyle offerings under a unified listing system, with optional fields that adapt to different business types.
Ensuring smooth coordination with the customer app
Any update on the seller side (availability, pricing, status) needs to reflect accurately for customers.
The seller app, customer app, and admin panel all connect to the same Laravel APIs and database, with clear status codes and validation to keep the marketplace in sync.
Encouraging sellers to use analytics and tools regularly
Many small businesses don’t naturally check dashboards or metrics.
Analytics are surfaced in a friendly, highâlevel way (simple charts, key numbers, “top products”) and tied to concrete actions, like highlighting bestsellers or restocking popular items.
Balancing community values with commercial tools
GoLocal’s mission is about belonging and local unity, not just transactions.
Copy, UX, and features emphasise connection, messaging, profiles, storyâdriven descriptions, so businesses feel they are part of a community platform, not just another transactional selling channel.
